Czech Republic: Romani musicians give benefit concert for families of girls killed in hit-and-run in England

Today, 6 January, at the Arena Club in Děčín, Czech Republic, a concert will be given by Romani musicians and the profits will be donated to the families of the two girls who tragically died after a man driving a car ran into them as they were crossing the street in the English town of Oldham. One girl died on the spot and her cousin succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

The concert is being organized by Pavel Grundza and Tomáš Půlka, who decided not just to express their condolences and support to the families of the girls in this way, but primarily to aid them tangibly. “In August 2014 I lost my 15-year-old son Daniel to an insidious oncological disease that he fought for three years and two months. When the tragedy in Oldham appeared on the Internet, it really hit me, because from my own experience I know what it is to lose a beloved son. Tomáš and I basically had the same idea and joined forces. We reached out to those we both know and that’s basically how it came about,” Grundza told news server Romea.cz.

The Ernest Dančo Bend, Gipsy Anča, Ludvagizman Teplice, Five Band Bilina, Gipsy Kubo, Lendel Band Family and Ondra Gizman, Jr. will begin performing at 20:00 and the entrance fee is CZK 50 (EUR 1.85). Other public collections to support both families are also underway, some of them directly in Great Britain.
