Czech tabloid will not be inviting ultra-right party representatives to its online debates

The daily Blesk tabloid has decided not to invite any politicians from the "Freedom and Direct Democracy" (SPD) party to its candidate debates prior to the autumn elections. After the 2017 elections, reporters from the publication were not given access to the party's events, so the move is one of retaliation.

Slovakia: Chair of neo-Nazi party indicted for using Nazi symbols on checks

Marian Kotleba, chair of the extremist, neo-Nazi, right-wing "People's Party Our Slovakia" (Ľudová strana Naše Slovensko - LSNS) is under indictment. Last year he gave checks bearing neo-Nazi symbols to three families in Banská Bystrica.

Czech Govt report on domestic human rights says debt collections proceedings are the country's biggest problem

The Czech Republic has not yet managed to solve its problems with the personal debt trap and overindebtedness, and laws to improve the situation are lacking, which means the rules governing collections proceedings are being corrected by the courts instead. Systematic education of the public to boost their financial and legal literacy is developing only slowly.

In Prague and other European cities, Romani people and their allies to protest recent violence against Roma in Ukraine

On Tuesday 31 July at 16:00 a march to support Romani people in Ukraine will take place in Prague as part of a bigger protest being held in 10 European countries. The first in the series of demonstrations begins tomorrow in Bucharest, Romania, while other events referencing the current violence will also mark Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, 2 August, in Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain and the UK, while 6 August will see events in Hungary and Macedonia.

Czech expenditure on aid to those in material distress lowest for the last six years

Expenditures on the set of welfare benefits known in the Czech Republic as "aid to those in material distress" have significantly fallen for the fourth year in a row and are at their lowest levels in six years. The number of persons receiving assistance from the state is also declining.

Czech PM says Government not satisfied with pace at which EU funds are being drawn

The Czech Government is not satisfied with how much EU money the Czech state is drawing and must dedicate more attention to the process than has been paid so far. Speaking at a press conference after a meeting of the Council for the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), Czech PM Andrej Babiš (ANO) made the announcement today.
