Czech Romany band in European world music top ten

The World Music Charts Europe top ten is issued every month on the basis of the vote of over 50 reporters who broadcast world music on the radio in 23 European countries.

Gipsy.cz also took part in the national round of the Eurosong contest, but it did not win.

Experts, however, say that the band, where mostly Romany musicians play, would have a chance to score success in Europe.

Its latest CD issued at the end of last year sells well in the Czech Republic and it is currently among the Czech top 20 best selling records.

Rapper Gipsy, whose real name is Radoslav Banga is the leading protagonist of the band. He sings his own lyrics in the Romany, English and Czech languages.

Other band members are violinist Vojta Lavicka, bass player Jan Surmaj and his brother Petr playing the guitar and accordion.
