The Congress Hall of the Olomouc Regional Authority will host a conference on 9 June starting at 9 AM on “Intercultural dialogue: The role of the media in integrating foreigners and Roma”. The first part of the conference will cover theory, with presentations focusing on the image of foreigners and the Roma in the media, journalistic ethics in practice, and the impact of publicity on social integration projects. The second part of the conference will be practical, during which participants will attend a workshop on formulating and elaborating reporting based on real (and fictional) events.

The conference will be attended by employees of the Regional Administration of the Police of the Czech Republic responsible for minority relations, foreign nationals, journalists, NGO and nonprofit staffers, researchers, and Roma people. The multidisciplinary approach is intended to make the conference beneficial and useful. The main aim of the conference is to create a space where all of the actors involved can communicate, make contact, and together find adequate ways to collaborate on keeping the public informed. The conference is open to the public and offers a exceptionally unique opportunity to meet with journalists and representatives of the target groups.

The conference is being implemented as part of the “Medium-term plan for social services development'” project co-financed by the European Social Fund through Operational Programme Human Resources and Employment and the State Budget of the Czech Republic. It is being convened by the Olomouc Regional Authority in collaboration with the Sociology Department of Palacký University, the Agency for Social Inclusion in Roma Localities, and People in Need, (Člověk v tísni, o.p.s.). The media partner of the conference is VLTAVA-LABE-PRESS.
