Czech extreme rightists march through town

22 October 2012
1 minute read

Some 20 members and followers of the Czech extreme rightist National Corporativism group staged a demonstration today, although an organiser had cancelled the event on Tuesday.

The rightist extremists marched from the railway station to the local square at around 3:30 p.m. They were shadowed by anti-fascists who were separated from the demonstrators by four anti-riot squads, including four mounted police officers.

The extremists shouted "Czech to Czechs!" and "Nothing but Nation" and had verbal exchanges with the anti-fascists. The conflict was only verbal.

Organisers originally expected some 300 people to come.

Kamil Cech, chairman of the Holesov branch of National Corporativism, said it was because the anti-fascists had launched a negative campaign against him, calling him a homosexual.

Cech had cancelled the event at the Holesov town hall on Tuesday. Deputy mayor Rudolf Seifert told CTK that he still had not cancelled the prepared measures.
