The Czech Government Agency for Social Inclusion has issued the following press release:

The Czech Government Agency for Social Inclusion is presenting a new weekly series in which it highlights a successful social inclusion process being administered in the places where the Agency is active. In its first short video profile, the Agency has presented the case of the town of Most, which adopted a regulation stipulating that employers seeking town contracts must reserve 10 % of their jobs for the long-term unemployed.

The town of Most has administered this condition with respect to seven contracts issued for the reconstruction of prefabricated buildings in the Chanov housing estate and for cleaning services at the town hall. The firms who won the contracts have already employed 12 people who were previously long-term unemployed. They were all people with low qualifications and without a great amount of practical work experience who had long failed at finding and keeping employment. When the contracts ended, six of the 12 people remained employed by the firms.

For more information on how to reserve 10 % of public jobs for the long-term unemployed, please see the Agency’s manual (in Czech only here). The manual offers detailed instructions on how municipalities can take advantage of similar processes.
