Czech NGO: Some evicted families rejected housing options without giving a reason

The organization People in Need (Člověk v tísni) has issued a press release claiming that some families now being evicted from the residential hotel on Čelakovského street in Ústí nad Labem were assisted by their staffers with finding substitute accommodation and allegedly rejected the options offered to them. Press release of People in Need on the situation in the Čelakovského residential hotel

Field social workers of the People in Need association have been collaborating with some of the clients now living at the residential hotel on Čelakovského street since October 2012 in an effort to resolve their unsatisfactory housing situation. Unfortunately, some of these families have repeatedly rejected the apartments that were found for them without giving any reason for doing so.

At this moment, the apartments below are still available. This list was posted by staffers of the organization yesterday at the residential hotel on Čelakovského street so all families living at the residential hotel could take advantage of the apartments on offer. The field social workers have already spoken in advance with all of the landlords concerned.

List of the apartments available:

Dr. Horákové street, 2-3 apartments: 3-bedroom, rent per number of persons (for five people, CZK 9 000); 4-bedroom (for five people CZK 10 000), no deposit;

Na Nivách street, 3 apartments: 1-bedroom, CZK 5 000 – 6 000, no deposit; 2-bedroom and another 1-bedroom

Svádovská street: reconstructed attic space, lease for three months to start, rent approximately CZK 5 000 according to number of people, deposit equivalent to two months’ rent;

Hrbovické street, 2-bedroom: not yet reconstructed, rent CZK 4 000 + utilities, deposit equivalent to one month’s rent;

Vojanova street: 1-bedroom, rent CZK 2 900 + CZK 300 for water per person, deposit CZK 2 500;

1. Máje street: 1-bedroom, rent CZK 4 000 + CZK 1 100 heating, CZK 550 for hot water + water per person + electricity and gas, deposit CZK 10 000.

Previously the Department of Material Distress has been willing to finance deposits as part of the exceptional, immediate aid it can provide.

The names of the landlords and telephone contacts can be obtained from the field social workers of People in Need.
