The traditional commemorative ceremony dedicated to the Romani victims of Nazism in the South Bohemian town of Lety near Písek will take place this year under the auspices of Czech Culture Minister Daniel Herman and will be attended by Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. Čeněk Růžička of the Committee for the Redress of the Roma Holocaust, which holds the event, informed news server Romea.cz of the news on 3 May.

"Permit us to invite you and your friends to the traditional commemorative ceremony which we are holding this year on Saturday, 10 May 2014 at 12:00 in advance of a day that is important to Roma and Sinti. On 13 May 1995, former President Václav Havel unveiled a memorial to the Romani victims of Nazism at Lety. This commemorative ceremony will be held in the spirit of Romani culture and in a friendly atmosphere," Mr Růžička’s invitation to the event reads.

The organizers have chartered a bus to Lety from Prague that will be parked in front of the main gate to the Florenc bus station beneath the highway overpass near the final stop for municipal bus #133. The charter bus will have a sign saying "Lety" and departure is planned for 10 AM; to reserve a seat, those interested may e-mail ruzicka.vporh@seznam.cz or call 603 247 617 by 7 May.
