Thanks to eyewitness testimonies, police have found the man whom they suspect of having assaulted passengers on the metro in Prague this past January and giving the Nazi salute at the Kolbenova station. The 32-year-old faces charges of rioting, expressing sympathy for a movement to suppress human rights, and approving of, denying, doubting and justifying genocide.

Police spokesperson Jana Rösslerová said yesterday that detectives involved with extremism proposed to the state prosecutor at the end of April that the suspect be prosecuted. She said the man has been convicted of five other offenses since the year 2000, including property-related felonies and racially-motivated crimes.

Officers are now prosecuting the man for the events of Monday 27 January. He reportedly shouted racist abuse at tourists from France in a metro car and spat at two women who stood up for the foreigners.

After exiting at the Kolbenova station, detectives say he continued to aggressively shout and then gave the Nazi salute. Should he be convicted he faces up to three years in prison.
