Some 60 Czech Romany children from the Olomouc region will spend their holidays at a special summer camp in Pohorany where they will be taught basic personal hygiene, Jirina Somsiova from the Association of Romanies in Moravia told CTK today.

The children will also be visited by the police, firefighters and American students for the sake of prevention of crime, Somsiova said.

"There will be children aged six to thirteen years at the summer camp. It is devised to entertain the children during their holidays, to teach them some hygiene basics and it also focuses on some educational activities," Somsiova said.

The summer camp is reserved for Romany children from the socially weakest families.
"We have prepared educational tests and competitions for them. There will be the police and anti-drug lectures. Firefighters will teach them how to behave in the event of fires," Somsiova said.

The stay includes unorthodox teaching of English. U.S. students will communicate with the small Romanies in English, she added.
The summer camp lasts from July 23 till August 6. In all,

0 children will be there.
The summer camp is part of the project Prevention among Romany Children and Youth. The Olomouc town hall has sponsored it with 77,500 crowns this year.
