Czech Romany committee to seek help with European Roma Forum

The Committee of Romany Regional Representatives (GRRP) wants to ask the European Roma and Travellers Forum (ERTF) to help the Czech Republic eliminate anti-Gypsy feelings, racial discrimination and manifestations of apartheid, GRRP secretary Josef Duna told CTK today.

The GRRP says the Czech state and Czech society alone are not capable of coping with these issues.

The GRRP statement released today says the human rights and civic rights of the Romany ethnic minority have been grossly violated in the long run.

"Racial discrimination, segregation, ghettoisation and anti-Gypsy feelings cause members of the Romany ethnic minority profound social, economic, cultural, political and social problems," says the GRRP statement.

It says the Czech state’s policy on Romanies is entirely untrustworthy because its real goal is nothing but to protect the Czech Republic against criticism by the world public for the violation of human and civic rights of members of the Romany ethnic minority.
