Representatives of the Rokycany Town Hall, police and local Romanies, who on Sunday protested against the alleged racist atmosphere in the town, today agreed to reinforce state and municipal police patrols in the streets, deputy mayor Marie Hlavkova has told CTK.

Romanies, who complain that they have been exposed to threats and attacks in Rokycany for a long time, said they would write down all cases of attacks against them that might be racially motivated and submit the list to the police, Hlavkova said.

The municipal, police and Romany representatives will meet again on September 8 to assess the situation.

Rokycany police chief Josef Svoboda said he proposed that Romanies report all symptoms of possible racially motivated offences to the police.

Police spokeswoman Jana Tomkova said the police investigated three racially motivated attacks this year, while last year no such case was registered.

Detectives are still investigating the third case in which a 17-year-old boy was attacked by an unknown perpetrator, according to CTK information.
