Marie Gailová: One of the best politicians we ever had has left us!

The death of former Czech President Václav Havel yesterday has greatly affected me. Václav Havel was a politician who understood Romani issues and appreciated the work of civic associations. He overwhelmed me with his ability to sense the feelings of the ordinary citizens and people of our state. He was not indifferent to their problems.

Havel’s relationship to justice positively influenced the atmosphere of the entire nonprofit sector in the Czech Republic. His sense of justice and his support for the upholding of human rights were emblematic of the highest possible degree of personal courage and responsibility. He always inspired us through his courage and responsibility and challenged us to follow in his footsteps. One of the best politicians we ever had has now left us.
