The EU declared this year the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All to raise public awareness of the right to equality and non-discrimination. The event includes seven large projects, seminars, conferences and festivals.

Banga was proposed as the Czech ambassador to the year by representatives of various ethnic minorities living in the Czech Republic.

He said he would like to contribute to the implementation of equal opportunities in practice and he would not only represent Romanies, but also other minorities.

“I am not a politician, I can only help Romanies by setting an example, by provoking them. I want to force them out of their lethargy,” he said in an on-line interview recently.

Stehlikova said she firmly believed that her cooperation with Banga would not end with the end of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All. As a singer, Banga is closer to people than a politician and his message can influence them, she said.
