Three foreigners making Nazi salute detained in Czech town Plzen

The police detained three foreigners for having made the Nazi salute in the Czech town of Plzen this morning, local police spokeswoman Jana Vaclavova told CTK.

They were seen at the corner of the Smetanova and Presovska streets in Plzen’s centre, Vaclavova said.
The detained men were taken to the police station and they may be charged with support to the movement suppressing the rights and freedoms of man, Vaclavova said.

According to the information available to CTK, the men are Poles.
Hundreds of riot police have started to gather in the town to prevent a banned neo-Nazi march planned for today.
The Plzen Town Hall originally did not ban the march, for which it was criticised by civic associations, the Jewish community and politicians.

The local Jewish community also pointed to the date of the march, January 19, being close to the anniversary of the first transport of Plzen Jews that left for the Jewish ghetto in Terezin (Theresienstadt), north Bohemia, on January 18, 1942. Many therefore viewed the march as an offence against and mockery of the Holocaust victims.

Radicals from Germany were to take part in the extremists’ march in Plzen as well.
