We Don't Want (Neo)Nazis in Ústí Initiative takes action against anti-Roma march by the DSSS through Krupka

The Workers’ Social Justice Party (Dělnická strana sociální spravedlnosti – DSSS) recently announced its intention to march through the small town of Krupka near Ústí nad Labem on 9 April. The announced march route was to have led directly through the part of Krupka most densely inhabited by Roma people.

“The (neo)Nazi gathering is allegedly being held ‘against racial hatred’. The civic initiative We Don’t Want (Neo)Nazis in Ústí has announced its own gathering in Krupka which will prevent the Nazis from marching through the Roma quarter,” the Initiative’s press release says.

“We announced our own gathering in Krupka last Friday, at which time the 9 April DSSS march had been banned and the space was therefore available. We are therefore now in the position of the first conveners for that space, and if the Nazis want to march through the places where our assembly is announced, they have to get our permission, which we naturally will not give,” explains Miroslav Brož, spokesperson for the Initiative. “Our gathering doesn’t totally incapacitate a potential DSSS march, as the march routes only partially overlap. However, they will not be able to march past the buildings where poor Roma people live,” Brož adds.

The assembly announced by the We Don’t Want (Neo)Nazis in Ústí Initiative will take place in Karla Čapka, Havlíčkova, and Dukelských hrdinů streets starting at noon on 9 April. The initiative is inviting everyone who disagrees with hate marches through the streets of Czech and Moravian towns to join them.

According to the official notice board at the Krupka Town Hall, the announced aim of the banned DSSS gathering was to “familiarize people with the domestic political situation in the Czech Republic and the situation worldwide. Attention will be drawn to the unequal approach of the courts, to crime, and to all other problems of our time, and these will be protested.”

According to the invitation which has now been posted to the official DSSS website, the extremists intend to exploit the case of young (allegedly non-Roma) Patrik, who was assaulted by two (allegedly Roma) youths. The extremist march is now being called “March for Patrik against Racial Violence”.
