1 minute read

Tomorrow, Saturday 24 October 2009, the Slovo 21 civic association is convening a Women against Racism event at 14:00 on Náměstí Míru in Prague. The event is open to all men and women who want to protest against increasing racism in Czech society.

“Through this protest campaign on United Nations Day, Slovo 21 wants to highlight the danger of growing racism and extremism in Czech society. If women have the courage to openly demonstrate their dissatisfaction and disagreement with this growing racism and extremism, they can effectively motivate that part of society which still remains indifferent to at least reflect on the results of keeping silent or quietly tolerating examples of extremism,” Slovo 21 told Romea.cz.

Speakers will include:

• Anna Šabatová, chair of the Czech Helsinki Committee

• Lejla Abbasová, press spokesperson and advisor to the Czech Human Rights Minister

• Sabe Amthor Soe, Burmese Center Prague

• Táňa Fischerová, actress

• Věra Tydlitátová, League against Anti-Semitism

• Marta Hudečková, Slovo 21

• Martina Horváthová, Slovo 21

• A representative of the Romani women’s group Manushe, which works in 34 towns and villages in the Czech Republic

The Women against Racism project is supported by the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic as part of its 2009 Campaign against Racism.
