Romea.cz Code of Discussion

02 April 2015
3 minute read

On the basis of our experiences with offering discussion space beneath each
article we have decided to create a Code of Discussion for news server Romea.cz.
This code is not new and exists on many news servers.

Our code is inspired by the codes and discussion rules on the Aktuálně.cz,
iDNES.cz and Sme.sk news servers. Our aim is not to restrict discussions by
creating many rules and strict instructions to follow, but if we want our
readers to hold meaningful discussions, certain rules must be established.

Our aim is continue to provide as much room as possible for the exchange of
opinions on the topic of coexistence between the majority society and Romani
people in the Czech Republic or in the world and to contribute to improving
those relations and to greater mutual recognition. If a reader decides to
comment on an article and to join a discussion, he or she expresses his or her
consent to the rules of discussion news server Romea.cz and pledges to uphold
them.

Should the rules be broken, Romea.cz moderators reserve the right to
delete inappropriate posts
in whole or in part without notice or to block
access to the discussion for persons who repeatedly break the rules
. Because
these discussions are taking place on Romea.cz., their rules are determined by
its operator, ROMEA, o.p.s.

The operator bears legal liability for the content of discussion posts and we
therefore reserve the right to intervene in discussions when rules are broken.
The basic principles for this kind of discussion have been very well described
by news server Aktuálně.cz as being three: 1) Obey the law 2) Do not
abuse the discussion space in order to promote commercial activities or
to spam people 3) Be polite.

Rules for discussions on Romea.cz

  1. Please approach others with respect – do not attack them, do not abuse
the discussion space in order to force your opinions on others, harass them,
or make threats against them. Avoid the use of insults, slurs, and vulgar
language. Stick to the topic of the article.
  2. Everyone must uphold the laws and standards that apply in the country
where he or she lives. The moderators reserve the right to determine whether
a post might be illegal. Posts inciting hatred and violence against groups
or individuals, especially against ethnic or religious groups, as well as
posts containing obscenities or vulgarity are forbidden.
  3. It is forbidden to pose as an employee of Romea.cz or of ROMEA, o.p.s.
or as anyone whom you are not. It is also forbidden to use more than one
name or nickname to post to a discussion. It is best to participate using
    your own name.
  4. The content of some websites that those posting to discussions might
refer to could be inappropriate and might violate the principles and rules
of news server Romea.cz. The moderators reserve the right to delete such
    posts.
  5. When citing a work or quoting someone, you must state who the author is
or provide a link to the source.
  6. It is unacceptable to promote commercial products or private firms in
discussions (unless it directly relates to the essence of the discussion) or
    to publish links to them.
  7. It is forbidden to join the discussion through an anonymous proxy server
or to change your IP address in any other way.

Moderation of the discussion posts does not take place consistently, but only
at certain intervals. On most holidays and weekends there will be no moderation.

If you suspect that someone has broken the law or these rules, please write
to us at romea@romea.cz or report the post
by clicking on the flag on the right.

In cases we consider appropriate we may delete posts that do not comply with
our standards and we may block readers who, even though they do not directly
violate these rules, create a long-term obstacle to a fair discussion of the
facts by harassing others through their posts.

The operator of news server Romea.cz reserves the right to alter or change
these rules on the basis of experience or suggestion.

These rules are based on the Code of Discussion used by the news servers
Aktuálně.cz, iDNES.cz and Sme.sk.
