Democrat Liberal (PDL) deputy for diaspora William Branza stated on Tuesday that he was going to discuss with Roma community representative in the Parliament Nicolae Paun, as well as with other political formations MPs the possibility of replacing the term of “rom” with “gypsy” for the respective ethnics, Romanian citizens.

“My colleagues, parliamentarians from Spain and Italy told me: “We do not know why you took the trouble by conferring the term of “rom” to the gypsies. We never hasted to do such a thing”. Personally, I will consult the colleagues from the other political parties, including roma representatives, I do not know if he would agree with that, or not, Mr. deputy Paun. We must examine if the term of “rom” is helping them first of all, maybe they are not helped by this term, but it could help us.

To say “Romanian gypsy” I do not think it is an affront, “gypsy” is a term I respect as any other one because this designates the origin. If we look into their origin I do not believe they are roms”, deputy William Brinza told.
The President of France, Nicholas Sarkozy, together with the Government in Paris, has already implemented a series of measures against roma community members coming from Eastern Europe, especially from Romania and Bulgaria, the French authorities accuses of illegal activities in the Hexagon.
