Greek news servers reported yesterday that a group of Greek neo-Nazis has once again attacked immigrant stall-keepers in Athens. One victim suffered injuries and was transported to hospital.
Six disorderly people attacked a fish-seller from Egypt in the Kallithea quarter of the capitol. An ambulance took him to hospital for treatment with bloody gashes. The assailants also ran amok against a Pakistani stall-keeper selling various goods. They allegedly even stole the bag where he kept his money.
The incident was just the latest case of members of the neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn or their sympathizers lashing out at immigrants. The party made it into parliament this year. Since the elections, research shows they have been receiving between 12 % and 14 % support, practically twice the amount of support they received at the polls.
The neo-Nazis also assault other minorities, gay people in particular. Part of the conservative Greek Orthodox Church has supported that effort.
