High School for Girls travellers say they have nowhere to go

TRAVELLERS were last night still camped on a city school field – claiming they have nowhere else to go.

The group of around 15 caravans moved onto the High School for Girls land between Estcourt Road and Lansdown Road last Saturday.

They are expected to be moved from the site after a possession order hearing in court on Monday.

The group has said they are only temporarily using the land as they do not have anywhere else to stay in the county as they pass through the area.

But a spokesman for Gloucestershire County Council said: "The county council owns four permanent sites for gypsies and travellers, three are in Tewkesbury and one is in Culkerton, near Tetbury.
