Identity Documents For Ethnic Roma In Vaslui
The county of Vaslui, eastern Romania, will benefit from European Union’s EUR 50,000 funds to release identity documents for the ethnic Romas in the counties Vaslui and Birlad, within the program for implementing the national strategy to improve the ethnic Romas status. Thus, hundreds of Romas in the two county seats could have identity documents from EU’s funds.
"The first stage means identifying the persons having no identity document, and then the persons without ownership documents on their dwellings. An NGO drafted a provisory statistics, which accounts for at least 400 persons being in this situation," Florin Rumanescu, advisor for ethnic Romas issues within Vaslui Prefecture said in a statement Friday.
The project should be implemented in a six-month period, involving the city halls in Vaslui and Birlad, as well as the County Council.
