OSCE internship in Prague or Vienna, application deadline is 16 March

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is accepting applications until 16 March 2020 for internships in various departments of its Secretariat in Vienna or its Documentation Center in Prague. The internships of between 3 – 6 months are intended for 30 interns who can choose from among 27 positions in the administrative and program sections.

The OSCE is an intergovernmental organization with 57 participating states from Central Asia, Europe and North America that focuses on security and political stability; the Czech Republic is also a participating state. The aim of the organization is to foster cooperation in the area of identifying economic, environmental, military, political and social risks and to prevent and solve the problems arising from those risks.

The OSCE agenda includes arms control, human rights, minority rights, environmental law, democratization, strategy in the area of policing, and combating terrorism. The internship is an opportunity not just to develop your professional skills and to acquire work experience at an international organization, but also an opportunity to establish contacts.

For those who have just graduated from university or those who are still students, this is a brilliant opportunity. The intern must choose three preferred subject areas when applying.

Generally speaking, interns can anticipate to perform the following types of work:

  • writing research articles, reports, creating presentations
  • assisting during the coordination and implementation of projects, e.g., writing project proposals or reports, creating budgets
  • research for the purpose of revising legal documents and writing legal opinions, media monitoring, creating financial or other analyses about support when organizing events, working groups, press conferences, round tables, etc.
  • website administration, production of audiovisual material for social media, production of promotional materials
  • attending negotiating meetings of the OSCE, creating minutes of meetings
  • support for the daily operations of the administrative sections, such as human resources, the finance department, the IT department
  • personal assistance to senior management, tasks associated with working trips and preparations for negotiations

Application conditions

  • up to 30 years of age
  • student status, either studying in the final year or higher years of a Bachelor’s or Master’s program or having the status of a fresh graduate – studies must have been completed within the past two years at the most
  • fluent English in spoken and written form
  • computer literacy
  • previous work experience in a particular area and knowledge of another official OSCE language, above all Russian, is an advantage
