Roma NGO in Moldova awarded for their Human Rights outstanding!

Roma National Center was awarded 3rd place for its contribution in promoting and defending Human Rights in Republic of Moldova by United Nations and Parliamentary Commission on Human Rights in Moldova. The award was the first of its kind given to a Roma organization in Moldova.

The award ceremony in the field of Human Rights was held on International Human Rights Day. The award was given for the most active NGOs and mass media representatives for their actions towards promoting and defending Human Rights in Moldova for the year 2007.

The 3rd annual award ceremony in the field of Human Rights was organized by the Parliamentary Commission on Human Rights and United Nations office from Chisinau. (you can learn more about the event at the following link http://www.undp.md/presscentre/2007/HR_Gala/index_rom.shtml )

Roma National Center was given 3rd prize for its outstanding initiatives in promoting partnerships and their strong efforts in promoting Human Rights for the Roma people. The prize was handed out by Mr. Stefan Secareanu, chairmen of Moldovan Parliamentary Commission on Human Rights,

Ana Lepadatu, chairwoman of Roma National Center stated: “this prize is more then recognition of our activities and issues, it is a prize that demonstrate that Roma can effectively contribute towards creating a democratic society and this award further motivates us in our day by day work”.

The sum awarded will be used to offer gifts to disadvantaged Roma children during the holiday season in the communities of: Huzun, Stejareni (city district. Straseni), Vulcanesti, Bursuc (city district. Nisporeni), Lucaseuca, Seliste (city district Orhei).
