Slovak Romany associations form Alliance of Romany Organisations
Five Romany associations in Slovakia today formed the Alliance of Romany Organisations (ARO) which they expect to facilitate their access to money from EU funds, ARO President Ivan Mako has told CTK.
ARO should also be a stronger partner in negotiations with institutions, Mako added.
He did not say how many members ARO has.
Most of the five associations were founded several years ago. One of their projects was the training of Romany assistants who helped teachers in classes with a higher number of Romany pupils.
An estimated 320,000 Romanies live in the five-million Slovakia. According to Amnesty International, a part of them are largely discriminated against in access to housing, education, jobs and health care.
