The First Roma Journal of Turkey: Rom-ca

The first Roma journal of Turkey Rom-ca is the sign of the development of
Roma in Turkey. Many Roma journals were published in Europe since 1900s. However
there were no periodicals prepared by Roma in Turkey until 2012. Rom-ca which is
published by Abdullah Cıstır, who is a Roma entrepreneur and activist, became
the first example of periodicals focusing on Roma in Turkey.

The second volume of the journal has already been published. The owner of
Rom-ca, Abdullah Cıstır has been the administrator of a local Roma association
in İzmir. He is distrubiting the journal with his own means. There is only one
bookshop from which the journal can be bought. It’s the Mephisto book shop in
Taksim İstanbul. Cıstır said that he is tryin to find a better way for
distrubition. Professor Ali Seyyar from Sakarya University, doctor Suat
Kolukırık from Süleyman Demirel University, journalist Burçak Evren, the
president of EDROM Erdinç Çekiç, the president of İstanbul Roma Flower Sellers
Association Metin Salih Şentürk and the presindent of Hatay Dom Association
Mustafa Karabulut are in the editorial board of the journal.
