Two out of four foreign students attacked by about 20 rightist extremists in Bratislava centre on Friday night were allegedly left unconscious, the People against Racism civic association said today.

The police have not confirmed whether the attack was racially motivated.

The association said the brawl took place only several hundreds of metres away from the regional police directorate and a hospital.

The attacked foreigners did not wish their names and country of origin to be published. The police said, however, they come from Libya and Greece.

The police registered last year 188 crimes motivated by racial, nationality and other intolerance, 105 of which have been cleared up, and 72 in the first half of this year.

The police have not yet ascertained the murderer of university student Daniel Tupy who was killed in Bratislava in November 2005. The case drew great attention since neo-Nazis are suspected of the attack.
