Week-long education event at Terezín also honors genocide of Roma with concert and flag

24.6.2018 15:15 On 22 June yet another year of the Vlak Lustig ("Lustig Train") project began in the spaces of the former Jewish ghetto at Terezín, the aim of which is to inform the public, including schoolchildren, aout the causes and consequences of genocides in world history. This year the project will include information about Holocaust victims who are Romani.  full story

International Roma flag to fly on buildings throughout Czech Republic tomorrow for Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day

1.8.2017 18:38 Buildings in Brno, Ostrava, Prague and Ústí nad Labem will fly the international Roma flag tomorrow at noon to commemorate the tragic night of 2 August and early morning of 3 August when the Nazis murdered the last prisoners in the so-called Gypsy Family Camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau in the gas chambers. During the 17 months of the camp's existence from February 1943 to July 1944 there were a total of 23 000 Romani children, men and women imprisoned in that particular camp.  full story

Czech town's "Multicolored Festival" will feature Romani rapper from Slovakia

18.7.2017 11:17 On Saturday 22 July the 13th annual "Různobarevný festival" (Multicolored Festival) will take place in the Czech town of Trmice near Ústí nad Labem. Czech Republic: Commemoration of Romani partisan will plant tree in his honor

17.7.2017 8:16 A Romani hero of the Czechoslovak resistance during WWII, the partisan Josef Serinek, will be commemorated by an assembly at the end of this month. The event is being
organized by the Black Partisan initiative (Černý partyzán), led by former Green Party chair Ondřej Liška, who is currently the country director in the Czech Republic of the Ashoka organization.  full story

"Journey to the Past" will mark Roma Genocide Remembrance Day at Auschwitz this August

12.5.2017 6:30 From 1-3 August the site of the former concentration camp of Auschwitz in Poland will be visited in order to honor the memory of the Romani victims of the Holocaust. Civil March for Aleppo crosses into the Czech Republic

Czech Museum of Romani Culture presents silent film from 1923 featuring Roma character

14.7.2015 5:17 On Thursday, 16 July, the Museum of Romani Culture in Brno will present an extraordinary cultural experience. The museum will screen a unique silent film by Václav Kubásek from 1923, "Bewitching Eyes" (Čarovné oči), accompanied by live music performed by the band The Harmonic Play.  full story

video"Romani Black Panthers" undertake "guerilla action" in a Prague supermarket

5.4.2015 2:02 On Tuesday, 24 March, the art group Romane Kale Panthera (Romani Black Panthers) presented an exhibition at the Hraničář Gallery in Ústí nad Labem about their "guerilla action" called "Happy Pork from Lety" ("Veselý vepřík z Letů"). Through this action, the group attempted to draw public attention to the fact that a pig farm still stands on a Romani Holocaust memorial site in Lety by Písek, that the Czech Government promised to get rid of the farm in the 1990s, and that the state has still not bought out the farm.  full story
