Students in Slovak town object to protest seeking to exploit still-unclarified tragedy

1.11.2018 10:42 Members of the "People's Party Our Slovakia" (Ľudová strana Naše Slovensko), a neo-Nazi party led by the ultra-nationalist Marian Kotleba, convened a recent protest in the town of Tisovec called "Tisovec against Roma". The pretext for the protest is the alleged killing of a disabled pensioner by three Romani youths, two of whom are minors.  full story

The march had originally been planned to head down the hill to Palachovo náměstí, but given the persistent rain, organizers decided to stay put near Prague Castle, which is where the Office of the President is located.  full story

Roma Pride march on 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia will object to President's antigypsyism

24.10.2018 14:13 Organizers of Roma Pride have informed news server Romea.cz that on Sunday, 28 October, a holiday marking the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the annual Roma Pride march will take place in Prague. The event will begin at 14:15 on Hradčanské náměstí near Prague Castle, where Romani people and their friends will object to the recent antigypsyist remarks made by Czech President Zeman.

Germany: More than 200 000 people protest discrimination, neo-Nazism and racism

15.10.2018 12:31 On Saturday, 13 October, more than 200 000 people attended a demonstration against racism, the ultra-right and xenophobia in Berlin, many more than were anticipated, according to public broadcaster Deutsche Welle. Organizers estimated that 242 000 people turned out for the protest.  full story

Local Prague candidate seems to have given Nazi salute at demonstration, extremist party she is running for disavows her

4.9.2018 17:56 Romana Frieselová, a woman identified as giving the Nazi salute on 18 August at a demonstration by right-wing extremists in the Czech town of Dubí, is apparently running as a candidate for the Workers Social Justice Party (DSSS) in the local elections in Prague. DSSS chair Tomáš Vandas, however, has claimed in an interview for the Free Radio (Svobodné rádio) station that the party has nothing to do with Frieselová and has even speculated that her candidacy might be a provocation aiming to damage the party.  full story

29.7.2018 13:34 As many as 900 people assembled on Saturday, 28 July 2018 in Bucharest, Romani in front of the Italian and Ukrainian embassies to express their disagreement with many violent anti-Romani crimes and to protest antigypsyism in Europe. 27.7.2018 9:41 On Tuesday 31 July at 16:00 a march to support Romani people in Ukraine will take place in Prague as part of a bigger protest being held in 10 European countries. The first in the series of demonstrations begins tomorrow in Bucharest, Romania, while other events referencing the current violence will also mark Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, 2 August, in Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain and the UK, while 6 August will see events in Hungary and Macedonia.  full story

USA: Organizer of last year's fatal ultra-right march plans a reprise in the nation's capital

25.6.2018 14:24 Jason Kessler, the organizer of last year's ultra-right demonstration in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, which turned fatally violent, is planning to hold another such event in August in Washington, D.C. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported the news on 21 June, adding that he has acquired the preliminary consent of the authorities to hold the event  full story

15.6.2018 11:34 Several dozen people demonstrated yesterday evening in the Czech town of Ústí nad Labem, where the planned closure of two residential hotels, according to demonstrators, will lead to their impoverished tenants, many of whom are Romani, having to move beyond the city limits. Czech Police intervene after ultra-right attacks those opposed to neo-Nazism in Plzeň

2.5.2018 9:40 Approximately 100 right-wing extremists assembled in Plzeň, Czech Republic yesterday to celebrate 1 May at a gathering organized by the Workers Social Justice Party (DSSS), the Workers Youth (DM) and the Bloc against Islamicization (BPI). About 50 people, most of them students, turned out to protest against them.

Hundreds commemorate Romani victims of WWII-era camp, criticize Czech politicians for Holocaust denial

16.4.2018 6:57 The Czech News Agency has reported that on 9 April approximately 300 people in the town of České Budějovice joined a commemorative ceremony for the victims of the concentration camp in Lety u Písku. Those assembled held a minute of silence and brought papers with the names of the camp victims and their birth and death dates written on them.  full story
