France: Le Pen and Co. continue to embezzle EU taxpayer money

6.7.2018 15:56 The European Parliament (EP) is demanding that French nationalist MEPs return even more money which, according to the EP, has been spent incorrectly. After first discovering expenditures for non-existent assistants, the EP's financial audit has now pointed to expenditures for costly parties featuring champagne fountains, for example. Agence France-Presse reports that the "National Gathering" (or Rassemblement National, the new name of the former Front National) led by Marine Le Pen owes more than half a million euro to the EP.

France: Extreme-right members arrested on suspicion of planning to attack Muslims

26.6.2018 13:23 An extensive anti-terrorist operation by the French authorities late Saturday and early Sunday resulted in the arrest of 10 adherents of the extreme right who are suspected of preparing attacks against Muslim inhabitants in the country. Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported the news on Sunday, according to which the suspects created a secret group that was planning violent crimes.  full story

France: Journalist sentenced to six months for racist articles about immigrants from the Maghreb and Romani people

25.4.2017 8:46 The website France Bleu reports that an unusually harsh verdict has been handed down in France in the matter of two racist articles published in August 2015 by the Petit Journal Catalan weekly. Journalist Rodolphe Crevelle, who is known for his extreme right-wing positions, attempted to obliterate the reputation of North African immigrants from the Maghreb and members of the Romani community (specifically, the Catalan Gitanos) through his pieces.  full story

French court fines Jean-Marie Le Pen for abusive remarks about Romani people - again

9.3.2017 12:39 A French appeals court has fined the founder of the ultra-right party Front National (FN), Jean-Marie Le Pen, for abusive remarks he made about Romani people in 2013. The Czech News Agency reports that Last April's fine of EUR 8 000 has been reduced to EUR 5 000 but does not specify why.  full story

Hollande admits France's role in persecuting Romani people during WWII
