The Romani Uprising in Auschwitz, 16 May 1944

16.5.2019 9:01 On 16 May 1944, in the concentration camp at Auschwitz, something completely extraordinary occurred: Romani people imprisoned in the so-called "Gypsy Camp" there rebelled against the SS. This historical event is still almost unknown in the Czech Republic, but 16 May is becoming more and more popular worldwide as Romani Resistance Day.  full story

16.11.2018 12:46 On Monday, 12 November, news server Romea.cz interviewed the chair of the Committee for the Redress of the Roma Holocaust in the Czech Republic (VPORH), Čeněk Růžička, at the site of the archaeological probes into what have been assumed to be mass burial pits for the former prisoners of the WWII-era concentration camp at Lety. An international research team under the direction of Pavel Vařeka from the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň has been performing the very first non-invasive archaeological probe ever near the memorial currently at the site.  full story
