Czech MP to host ultra-right leaders from all over Europe, protests anticipated

14.12.2017 16:34 In Prague on Saturday, 16 December a conference will be held of parties from around Europe that are anti-EU, anti-immigrant and ultra-right and are associated in the "Europe of Nations and Freedom" (ENF) group at the European Parliament (EP). Czech MP Tomio Okamura, whose "Freedom and Direct Democracy" (SPD) movement is a member of the ENF, will make an appearance at the conference, as will the chair of the ENF, MEP Marine Le Pen of France's Front National, along with the Dutch MP Geert Wilders.

Open Society Fund Prague conference on Romani children's access to education: How to explain the delay?

18.11.2017 18:05 An estimated 300 000 Romani people live in the Czech Republic, the equivalent of approximately 3 % of the overall population. In 2007 the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Romani children here face discrimination in education on the basis of their ethnicity.

Third international Romani LGBTI conference discusses homophobia in non-Romani and Romani society

Czech and Slovak ministers call for ways to combat radicalism

Czech Republic: Conference begins in Prague today about historical experience of Romani people as Holocaust victims

11.5.2017 9:12 The Terezín Initiative, the ROMEA organization and the Antikomplex movement are opening a three-day international conference today on the identity of European Roma in the 20th century in light of efforts to document Romani victims of the Holocaust, the aim of which is to look at the history of the 20th century through the historical experience of the Roma as one of the minorities affected by the Holocaust. The conference will open in Prague and close with a visit to the former concentration camp for Romani people at Lety u Písku on Saturday, 13 May, as part of the annual commemoration there.  full story

DEADLINE 26 APRIL: Int'l conference 11-13 May on "European Roma Identity in the 20th Century in Light of Documenting Holocaust Victims"

20.4.2017 6:56 The Antikomplex organization and the Terezín Initiative Institute in collaboration with the ROMEA organization and other partners, will be holding an international conference from 11 - 13 May in Prague and at Lety u Písku, Czech Republic during which experts on the documentation of Holocaust victims and modern history in the Central European area will discuss the current state of research in the field of the Romani Holocaust and their experiences with documenting Holocaust victims in general. The expert conclusions of the first day of the conference will be further discussed with members of the public during the second day, and based on those discussions, the experts will subsequently have the opportunity to jointly form an expanded version of existing recommendations to improve the situation not just in the area of the documentation of and research into the Romani Holocaust, but also for improving the fields of education, information, and the social situation of the Romani community in the Czech Republic and other European countries.  full story

Czech Govt Agency for Social Inclusion director says both housing and social workers necessary to social housing

Charter 77 veterans critique Czech Government for forgetting about human rights

The signatories of the Charter 77 document gathered in Prague's Lucerna complex on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its creation Saturday, as did other dissidents who played a key role in its organization. The conference, called "The Charter through Its Own Eyes", was preceded by a celebration featuring not just recollections of the circumstances of the creation and operation of the opposition initiative, but also a critique of the current Czech Government as deviating away from an active defense of human rights abroad.

Czech Republic: Two-day European conference on Romani education to take place in Prague

28.11.2016 6:59 More than 60 Romani women from all over the Czech Republic will gather today in the Hotel Amarilis in Prague for a conference of the JILEHA 2016 project, which is run by the Manushe Romani women's group. "These women are aiding other women to come out from the shadows, to overcome the obstacles in their lives and to improve the way they view themselves. Women's solidarity is the motor of the entire project, which supports the initiative of these extraordinary ordinary women and makes it possible for them to contribute to changing the lives of those around them," said project coordinator Martina Horváthová.  full story

Slovakia: Czech Human Rights Minister speaks at EU conference on Romani youth

11.10.2016 11:13 On 10 October the Czech Minister for Human Rights, Equal Opportunities and Legislation attended the High Level Event on Roma Youth Empowerment in his role as chair of the Czech Government Council on Romani Minority Affairs. The topic of the conference was "Promoting the key role of Roma youth as a driving force in the process of Roma integration" and it was held in Bratislava from 9-11 October as part of the Slovak Presidency of the European Union.  full story

Czech Human Rights Minister opens important expert conference on social housing
