Council of Europe calls for progress on women's sexual and reproductive rights, including redress of forced sterilization by Czech Republic

Regrettably, however, women in Europe still have these rights denied or restricted as a result of laws, policies and practices that ultimately reflect continuing gender stereotypes and inequalities," Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks said today while releasing a new report on this topic, "Women's sexual and reproductive health rights in Europe".  full story

Slovakia: Romani women protest discrimination in maternity hospital with a petition

6.5.2017 19:28 In Prešov, Slovakia, Romani mothers are grappling with being discriminated against by health care staff in the obstetrics and gynecological department of a particular hospital. Romani women do not receive the same health care as Slovak women, are separated from other expectant mothers in the ward, are insulted by staff and other patients, and are not informed enough about the state of their health and the procedures of the hospital facility.  full story

Elena Gorolová on forced sterilizations: We seek compensation, nobody will ever restore our motherhood

Czech Republic: First Romani Charity Ball raises CZK 30 000 for hospital

Ústí nad Labem, 27.3.2014 23:31, (ROMEA) The organizers of the first-ever Romani Charity Ball, held in mid-March in Ústí nad Labem, presented the proceeds of their event, CZK 30 000, to the head physicians at the children's oncology and children's surgery wards of Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem. Czech Republic: Romani family says police broke into their home and beat them for no reason

Ústí nad Labem, 11.10.2013 21:16, (ROMEA) A visit by relatives to a Romani family residing at the Mojžíř housing estate in Ústí nad Labem ended with police intervening and beating up several people. The police raided the family last Sunday shortly after 10 PM on the basis of a complaint from a neighbor bothered by noise coming from their apartment.  full story

Florin Cioabă, "King of the Roma" and president of the International Romani Union, has passed away

Antalya, Turkey, 19.8.2013 4:03, (ROMEA) Florin Cioabă, the self-proclaimed "King of the Roma" worldwide, passed away on 18 August in a hospital in the Turkish city of Antalya. The 58-year-old had been admitted to the hospital there last Tuesday in very serious condition.  full story

Czech Police: Attackers of Slovak man shouted "Antifa Praha"

Prague, 13.3.2013 23:27, (ROMEA) Police officers in Prague are searching for unidentified perpetrators who allegedly assaulted a man at the Florenc bus station after he disembarked there last month. Police say the assailants shouted "Antifa Praha" several times during the attack. The man was hospitalized as a result of the beating.  full story

US clinic keeps black staff away from white newborn

Detroit, Michigan, USA, 23.2.2013 20:28, (ROMEA) Several black nurses recently filed charges against a clinic in the US state of Michigan after its management acceded to an illegal request to ban black staff from coming into contact with a hospitalized patient. The Associated Press reports that it is an "open secret" that health care facilities in the USA often make it possible for patients to refuse treatment by doctors and nurses who are not of their same race.  full story
