Czech Police investigating three suspects over death threats against first-graders

31.1.2018 8:23 Czech Television reports that the Czech Police have begun to investigate three suspects whom they believe were involved with the case of the death threats and hateful commentaries made online in response to a photograph of the children in a first-grade class at the Plynárenská Primary School in Teplice. Charges have yet to be filed in relation to the incident.  full story

Czech Parliament marks International Holocaust Memorial Day with Romani speaker

28.1.2018 7:26 Czech MP Radek Vondráček (ANO), speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, addressed a gathering in the Czech Senate Friday on the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, 27 January, saying that the current civilized state of society should not be taken for granted. Underestimated sparks of the hateful ideologies that have led in the past to people being annihilated because of their different ethnicities or faiths could yet become an uncontrollable blaze, Vondráček said.  full story

Czech Green Party co-chair wants Interior Ministry to dissolve the "Freedom and Direct Democracy" Movement

Czech "November Challenge" against racism and xenophobia responds to online racist death threats against children and more

22.11.2017 16:05 Czech blogger Viktor Machek's "November Challenge" is responding to the rising wave of hatred and racism in the country. "Capturing these openly racist or xenophobic remarks is just the tip of the iceberg of what is happening around us day after day, and not just on the Internet. We are being confronted more and more openly with hate, with scorn, with open xenopobia or racism. Instead of strongly objecting to these negative displays we are silent. Just a few manage to speak up, to demonstrate their opinions, to object," Machek writes in his challenge, which news server Romea.cz translates in full here.

ROMEA raises funds to support Czech school subjected to racist attacks online

Romani singer received thousands of hateful verbal assaults, Czech Police charging two people

1.8.2017 16:48 News server Lidovky.cz reports that the Czech Police have discovered the identities of just two of the aggressors who sent thousands of racist messages to the Romani singer Radek Banga after he publicly protested a pop music award given to the hate-inciting Ortel band. France: Journalist sentenced to six months for racist articles about immigrants from the Maghreb and Romani people

Czech court overturns acquittal in radical Islamic book distribution case

Deputy Mayor of Prague proposes Romani celebrity receive award from the Czech capital for his brave stance against hate music

2.12.2016 7:00 Deputy Mayor of Prague Petra Kolínská (Green Party) proposed on Tuesday that the Romani singer Radek Banga be given the Award of the Capital City of Prague for his many years of activity aiming to prevent risky behavior in youth and for his open stance against hate music. Czech Interior Ministry says Prague municipality had no way to ban ultra-right activist's event in a public space
