Slovak appeals court says video of police abuse of Romani children must be admitted into evidence

7.5.2018 7:17 A Slovak appeals court has overturned a second first-instance court verdict acquitting all 10 current and former police officers last year of abusing Romani children at a police station in the east of the country. Their humiliation of the children happened in 2009 and was recorded by them using their mobile phones.  full story

Czech media again exaggerate assault incident, promote antigypsyist stereotypes

14.4.2018 19:00 Media in the Czech Republic keep reporting increasingly higher and higher numbers of Romani people who are alleged to have assaulted a police patrol in the town of Krupka. The incident happened Tuesday evening when a two-member patrol of a female and a male officer were addressing a traffic accident.  full story

A brutal assailant attacked Lucie Badyová in front of her seven-year-old son and three-year-old daughter last Thursday afternoon on Kapitána Jaroše Street in the Czech town of Kadaň. He punched her, knocking her to the ground and continued his brutal assault as she was prone.

Czech police officer who brutally assaulted Romani workers now on trial

17.2.2018 7:26 On 14 February 2018 a 36-year-old police officer went on trial before the District Court in Česká Lípa, accused of abusing the powers of a public official. According to the indictment, he used a collapsible metal truncheon to beat a 41-year-old man who was harvesting legal technical cannabis in September 2015 in Písečná u Dobranova.  full story

14.2.2018 7:20 The gunman who shot a 34-year-old Romani man to death on Jirkovská Street at the Písečná housing estate in Chomutov last May has been charged with murder and property
damage and faces between 12 and 20 years in prison if convicted. The case will be tried by the Regional Court in Ústí nad Labem.  full story

Czech Police investigating three suspects over death threats against first-graders

31.1.2018 8:23 Czech Television reports that the Czech Police have begun to investigate three suspects whom they believe were involved with the case of the death threats and hateful commentaries made online in response to a photograph of the children in a first-grade class at the Plynárenská Primary School in Teplice. Charges have yet to be filed in relation to the incident.  full story

Slovak President Kiska discusses Romani settlements and Interior Ministry's plans for repression

UK: Police say there are no suspicious circumstances about death of young Romani girl in Sheffield

Czech Police arrest man for firing gas pistol while shouting about "Gypsies"

29.8.2017 10:21 News servers Aktu.cz and Blesk.cz report that at around 20:00 on 24 August there was a shooting incident at a residential hotel in the Radotín quarter of Prague. Eyewitnesses say a drunken man shouted "Gypsies, I'll shoot you all here!" before firing a gas pistol at people inside the building - without, however, actually physically harming them.  full story

Czech Police reconstruct murder of Romani man, shooter faces 20 years in prison if convicted

14.8.2017 12:25 Czech Police performed a reconstruction during the night of Friday 11 August of the May murder of a Romani man at a housing estate in the town of Chomutov. The re-enactment involved the 37-year-old man who has been accused of the murder, supervising State Prosecutor Vladimír Jan told the Czech News Agency.  full story

Czech prosecutor says death threats and racist abuse committed through Facebook not necessarily crimes

2.8.2017 9:32 The ROMEA organization filed more than 10 reports of suspected crimes at the beginning of this year against persons who used online social networks to post racist verbal attacks against Romani people and members of other minorities, including threatening them with physical destruction. The Prague 1 District State Prosecutor subsequently sent just four of those reports to the Prague 1 District Police Directorate for investigation.  full story

Czech Police say assault on Muslim women in Prague by aggressive woman was a misdemeanor

27.7.2017 18:51 The case of an attack on two Muslim women as they were on their way to the Divoká Šárka aquapark in Prague has been assessed by police as a misdemeanor. The Muslim women were chaperoning 13 children on a trip when they were photographed by a woman who then assaulted one of them both physically and verbally when they asked her to stop taking their picture.  full story
