Czech court hears accused assailants of African man deny they racially abused him in any way

16.9.2018 9:29 Fans of the Sigma Olomouc football team have testified in court and denied racially abusing and assaulting a dark-skinned passenger on a tram in Prague last year as they were traveling to a match. The defendants admitted to witnessing the conclusion of the incident, but described the passenger as having threatened another fan.  full story

Romani NGOs around Europe ask why the OSCE is researching alleged radicalization of their communities in Serbia

18.7.2018 15:16 Representatives of Romani organizations from around Europe have contacted the head of the OSCE's mission to Serbia to express their alarm over the 10 July 2018 announcement of a search for a “Researcher on Radicalization among the Roma Community in Serbia”. The Romani representatives say they are deeply concerned about the growing insecurity of Roma in Europe as a result of extremist antigypsyism in a number of OSCE participating States.

Czech President and Governor of Olomouc Region doubt whether attack on African man in Prague was racially motivated

19.11.2017 12:09 Czech President Miloš Zeman and the Governor of the Olomouc Region, Ladislav Okleštěk (ANO), have cast doubt on whether the assault committed against a man from Africa earlier this month in Prague by a group of Sigma Olomouc football fans on a tram was racially motivated. The victim said none of his fellow passengers came to his aid and that the driver did not understand why he wanted to call the police.  full story

10.11.2017 8:54 News server Aktuálně.cz reports that a group of fans of the Sigma Olomouc football club assaulted a man from western Africa on Saturday, 4 November as they were riding on a tram in Prague. The victim ended up in the hospital.  full story

Czech Republic: Children's fight mischaracterized by media as "Roma gang violence"

16.10.2017 8:08 The Facebook social network has been circulating a video recording of an aggressive assault by a Romani youth on two schoolchildren in a park in the Czech town of Louny. The state police are investigating and have beefed up morning and afternoon patrols around schools there in collaboration with local police, and the Department of Social Affairs and Health Care of the local authority has also begun investigating.  full story

Czech Republic: Head of ROMEA receiving threats against his family, antigypsyism on the rise

Hungary: Camerawoman gets three-year probation for kicking at migrants

17.1.2017 9:56 A court in the town of Szeged has placed Petra László, the Hungarian camerawoman for the N1TV station who kicked migrants at the Hungarian-Serbian border in September 2015, on probation for three years. The public defender is appealing and asking that his client be released.  full story
