Analysis: Publicly active Romani figures voted for Drahoš, the socially excluded voted for Zeman

28.1.2018 19:33 At the Romani-inhabited housing estate of Chanov, during the final round of voting for the President of the Czech Republic, 11.37 % of voters turned out, 80 % of whom voted for Jiří Drahoš. A closer look at the outcomes of the vote in other socially excluded localities, however, shows low voter turnout, with those who did turn out favoring the incumbent, who ultimately won the election.

First round of Czech presidential elections saw low turnout in socially excluded localities

23.1.2018 5:55 In socially excluded localities of the Czech Republic, which are predominantly inhabited by Romani people, very few people turned out to vote in the first round of the presidential elections. Czech President attempts to smear opponent as "pro-immigration" - but their views are the same on that issue

20.1.2018 14:51 The "Friends of Miloš Zeman" group has published an advertisement in some Czech dailies supporting the incumbent in the second round of voting and attacking his competitor, Jiří Drahoš, by connecting him with support for immigration and attacking asylum-seekers as well. The advertisement was commissioned by the Euro-Agency firm, which, according to Zeman's transparent campaign accounting had already paid CZK 1.8 million [EUR 70 000] for advertising in the daily press before the first round of voting.

Czech presidential election second round will apparently be Drahoš v Zeman

13.1.2018 15:55 After the vote in the Czech Republic being counted in 75 % of precincts the results seem to be that the incumbent, Miloš Zeman, is the front-runner, with challenger Jiří Drahoš in second place. Pavel Fischer, Marek Hilšer and Michal Horáček came in third, fourth and fifth, according to the preliminary results on the election coverage website of the Czech Statistical Bureau.
