US expert from the Bronx on inclusive education: Involve schools whose principals are prepared for this work

17.5.2017 8:41 Speaking at the American Center in Prague on 15 May, the American education expert Monique Fletcher gave a talk about an education program that has proven effective in more impoverished areas of New York City, specifically in the Bronx. The seminar was organized by the Open Society Foundation Prague, which annually invites an expert on inclusive education to the Czech Republic.  full story

DG Justice seminar series on improving media coverage of Romani people comes to the Czech Republic

11.5.2016 7:58 A two-day international media seminar began in Brno yesterday, attended by representatives of the Czech Government Inter-ministerial Commission for Roma Community Affairs, nonprofit organizations, the Romani community, and domestic and international journalists. Organizers say the aim of the seminar is to develop closer communication between journalists, municipalities, local authorities and organizations in order to support more balanced, precise coverage of Romani issues in both alternative and mainstream media throughout Europe.  full story

Czech Republic: Discussion of adoption and foster care for Romani children tomorrow at Klinika

22.2.2016 17:22 On Tuesday, 23 February, at 18:30 there will be a lecture and debate on the topic of foster family care for Romani children at the Klinika Autonomous Social Center (Jeseniova 60, Prague 3). This is the third such evening lecture in a series called "Getting a Good Start" (Mít dobrý start) and will be led by Martina Vančáková, a family counselor, foster parent, and psychologist who founded the "Our Romani Child" project at the Foster Care Center in Prague.  full story

Czech Republic: ROMEA trains police on working in excluded localities

11.2.2016 19:14 From 8 - 10 February 2016, yet another set of lectures was held in Beroun, Czech Republic to prepare 60 police officers from four different regions with higher numbers of socially excluded localities in how to work with members of the Romani minority. The aim of the pilot education project is to introduce officers from district departments into the field who have knowledge of the Romani environment so they will be able to establish mutually beneficial communication with them.  full story

Forum 2000 opens with debate about segregation of Roma in the Czech schools

Czech Platform for Human Rights holds seminar on hate violence

Romani college students hold discussion in the Czech Parliament

Prague, 14.11.2014 22:07, (ROMEA) Yesterday a breakfast meeting was convened between Romani college students and women members of the Czech lower house. The meeting took place on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the announcement of the infamous European Court of Human Rights judgment of 2007 in the case of D.H. and Others vs. the Czech Republic.  full story
