24.4.2018 14:23 The ROMEA organization, in collaboration with Bader Philanthropies, has launched another campaign to support students as part of their Scholarship Program for Romani students of colleges, high schools and technical schools. The campaign is entitled I HAVE DREAM! and clearly references the strong message of human rights fighter Martin Luther King, Jr., who was a central representatives of the movement for the equality of African-Americans in the USA.  full story

Czech students walk out of school to defend democracy, protest denial of Romani Holocaust

22.3.2018 16:36 Students from roughly 300 colleges and high schools around the Czech Republic joined a half-hour long warning strike to defend Constitutional and social values at noon on 15 March, with thousands of young people assembling before schools and in protest demonstrations in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, České Budějovice, Olomouc, Hradec Králové, and other big cities. In speeches, on banners and through online social networks, the students criticized the approach taken by top politicians towards the Constitution or towards the media, especially Czech President Miloš Zeman and outgoing Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO).  full story

Czech Police officer explains why he donated to Romani Scholarships

18.2.2018 10:44 One day a few months ago I saw a hate campaign online by some Czech citizens against a primary school in Teplice. Then I found out that other Czech citizens had organized a collection for the children of that school and to support Romani students.

26.1.2018 6:51 The President of the Association of Roma Entrepreneurs and Associations of the Czech Republic, Vladimír Leško, has published a video on YouTube aimed at Romani people asking them to take an active part in the election of the President of the Czech Republic in the second round of voting, which begins today and continues tomorrow until 2 pm. Leško, together with other members of the association, clearly declares on YouTube that he will vote for Jiří Drahoš.  full story

Slovak Police investigate suspected racially-motivated assault against dark-skinned French student

23.2.2017 8:48 A 20-year-old dark-skinned French student was assaulted over the weekend of 11-12 February in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. A 31-year-old Slovak man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and faces up to three years in prison if convicted.  full story

Some Czech schools institute online reservations for first-grade enrollment

Roma Education Fund scholarship deadline is 11 May 2015

Czech Republic, 13.4.2015 23:34, (ROMEA) The Roma Education Fund's scholarship program has announced its scholarship cycle for the 2015-2016 academic year; the deadline to apply is 11 May 2015. Through an open academic competition, the scholarship program offers a stipend to Romani students who are either citizens of or have permanent residency in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia or Turkey and who are attending Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral studies at state-accredited colleges.  full story

Slovakia: Artist involves Romani volunteers in revitalizing apartments

Sečovce, Slovakia, 13.10.2014 17:26, (ROMEA) Artist Tomáš Rafa, the winner of the 2011 Oskar Čepan Prize, has painted an apartment building in the Nová ulice settlement near the village of Sečovce together with activists and Romani volunteers. The work is a continuation of his long-term project called "Walls of Sports", during which artists and the residents of Romani settlements have been painting the segregation walls throughout eastern Slovakia in recent years in order to draw attention to the isolation of the Romani minority from the majority society there.  full story
