Czech Christian Democratic MEPs file criminal charges against Czech MP Okamura for defamation and harming their good name

18.9.2017 15:10 In a press release issued on 14 September, Czech Christian Democratic MEPs Pavel Svoboda, Michaela Šojdrová and Tomáš Zdechovský announced that they have filed criminal charges against Czech MP Tomio Okamura, whose election campaign is called "The Courage to Speak the Truth" and who has disseminated a deceptive list of the names of 12 MEPs whom he is alleging voted at the European Parliament (EP) in favor of sanctions against the Czech Republic because the country decided not to receive refugees as part of the EU's quota system. All three of the Christian Democratic MEPs can prove that they voted against the resoution Okamura is referring to.  full story

Czech politician files criminal report against activist who set a copy of the Quran on fire

10.7.2016 12:07 The Brno-based politician Svatopluk Bartík (Žít Brno) has filed criminal charges against Martin Konvička, head of an Islamophobic initiative now named after himself ("The Initiative of Martin Konvička"), who provoked outrage last week in front of a mosque in Brno. Konvička and his followers said they were "defending Czech culture" by setting fire to the Quran, holding a fashion show of scantily-clad women, drinking beer, and eating goulash and hot dogs.  full story

Ukrainian soldiers wearing helmets with Nazi symbols

Ukraine, 20.9.2014 17:36, (ROMEA) The German television station ZDF has broadcast footage showing members of the Ukrainian Army with Nazi symbols on their helmets such as a swastika and the symbol of Hitler's special SS units. News server Echo24.cz cited NBC News as reporting that ZDF broadcast the footage as part of its reporting on the situation in Ukraine earlier this month.  full story

EU: Ultra-right could win EP seats in almost half of the Member States

Prague, 20.5.2014 22:09, (ROMEA) The Greek neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn, which does not hide its admiration for Adolf Hitler, the Movement for a Better Hungary (Jobbik), which is often charged with anti-Romani agitation and anti-Semitism, and the UK Independence Party, which declaims against immigrants and is demanding Britain's exit from the European Union - all of these eurosceptic, ultra-right parties are well on the way to winning seats at the EP in the upcoming elections. Even though surveys show the EP will continue to be dominated by mainstream parties, the radical right has already significantly influenced political events across Europe.  full story
