Hungary: József "Choli" Daróczi, translator of the New Testament into Romanes, has passed away

17.5.2018 17:25 At the age of 79 the eminent Romani author, poet, journalist and teacher József Daróczi, known to his loved ones by the familiar Romani nickname "Choli", passed away in Hungary on 12 May 2018. Mr Daróczi, an all-around gifted artist and charismatic educator, was one of the most eminent Romani figures in Hungarian public life for decades.  full story

Czech Republic: Romani broadcaster and educator Hilda Pášová has passed away

11.3.2018 7:01 On Monday 5 March the Romani broadcaster, educator, politician and author Hilda Pášová passed away after a long illness at the age of 76. Funeral services will be held for her tomorrow, Monday, 12 March, at 11 AM in the Chapel of St. Wenceslaus (sv. Václava) at the cemetery in the Prague quarter of Vinohrady.

Bosnia: Romani actor passes away in poverty after being lauded by Berlinale Film Festival in 2013

26.2.2018 13:01 The Bosnian Romani actor Nazif Mujić became the surprise star of the Berlinale Film Festival five years ago thanks to his role in a docudrama by Danis Tanovič, for which he won the festival's "Silver Bear" award for best actor. Back in Bosnia, however, he returned to a life of abject poverty in which he earned the bare minimum as a scrap metal collector, just like the character he portrayed in the film.  full story

Eduard Oláh, sculptor and stonemason who designed memorial to the Romani victims of Hodonín concentration camp, has passed away

13.2.2018 7:20 After a brief illness the sculptor and stonemason Eduard Oláh - Izrael Ben Eded has passed away at the age of 63. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, 7 February 2018, for the immediate family, which informed news server Romea.cz of his passing.  full story

Czech Republic: Professor Ctibor Nečas, a pioneer in researching the history of the Roma, has passed away

22.12.2017 17:18 Professor PhDr. Ctibor Nečas, DrSc., an emeritus professor at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic who was a pioneer of research into the history of ethnic Romani people and the Holocaust, passed away on Tuesday, 19 December. Internationally renowned Romani artist Damian Le Bas has passed away

13.12.2017 8:57 Damian Le Bas, a leading artist from the Romani community, passed away on Saturday, 9 December 2017 at the age of 54 at home in the small British town of Worthing in West Sussex. The Kai Dikhas Gallery in Berlin, Germany announced the sad news.  full story

Ladislav Body, Romani man elected MP in the former Czechoslovakia, has passed away

Italy: Two Romani children and their older sister die in arson attack

11.5.2017 9:49 ANSA, the Italian wire service, reported yesterday that two Romani girls ages four and eight and their 20-year-old sister died early yesterday morning during an arson attack in Rome, Italy. The assailant's identity has not yet been ascertained.  full story
