Czech researcher at Romani genocide commemoration: Compensate the victims of illegal sterilizations

15.5.2017 11:59 Ruben Pellar, a commentator, researcher and translator, emphasized the need to compensate the Romani women who have been illegally sterilized in the former Czechoslovakia and its successor state of the Czech Republic during his speech to those assembled for the commemorative ceremony honoring the Romani victims of the Holocaust at the site of the former camp at Lety u Písku on 13 May. Despite the efforts of many NGOs, direct compensation for the victims of these abuses has yet to be approved by the Czech Government, and it is necessary to remember these crimes.  full story

New initiative challenges Czech Government to adopt social housing law by the end of the month

6.1.2017 7:26 Yesterday representatives of a new intiative called "Have a Home" (Mít svůj domov) organized a "happening" in front of the Office of the Government in Prague to challenge cabinet members to fulfill their campaign promise to adopt a law on social housing. The initiative wants the Government to do so by the end of January.

Czech Human Rights Minister says striking agency's aims can't be met

Czech Human Rights Minister says Agency director removed over public tender errors

21.4.2015 17:03 Czech Minister for Human Rights, Equal Opportunities and Legislation Jiří Dienstbier held a special press conference today at which he said that Martin Šimáček has been removed from his post as director of the Czech Government Agency for Social Inclusion because he made administrative errors in public tenders and the concluding of contracts. Dienstbier said another reason for the removal was that Šimáček had refused to discuss the reorganization of the Human Rights Section at the Office of the Government, where the Agency is located, with his superior, Deputy Minister Martina Štěpánková.  full story

City of Prague establishes National Minority Committee with seat for Roma

Prague, 31.3.2015 1:12, (ROMEA) More than 5 % of the residents of Prague are of a nationality other than Czech. The City Council has therefore fulfilled its legal obligations and established a National Minority Committee with representatives of 12 nationalities.  full story
