Czech Republic: Children's fight mischaracterized by media as "Roma gang violence"

16.10.2017 8:08 The Facebook social network has been circulating a video recording of an aggressive assault by a Romani youth on two schoolchildren in a park in the Czech town of Louny. The state police are investigating and have beefed up morning and afternoon patrols around schools there in collaboration with local police, and the Department of Social Affairs and Health Care of the local authority has also begun investigating.  full story

25.7.2017 6:48 Czech Television broadcast on Sunday an episode of its cycle called "GEN", which means "gene" in Czech and is said to stand for "Gallery of the Elite of the Nation", featuring the portrait of the Romani activist, journalist, and mechanical engineering graduate Karel Holomek. 20.11.2016 10:24 News server published the mobile phone video yesterday of an incident between a police officer and a Romani driver during a traffic stop at the beginning of November on the Máj housing estate in the town of České Budějovice after which the driver had to seek medical attention and was hospitalized with a bruised neck and suspected concussion. The driver had been attempting to film one of the officers involved in the traffic stop using his mobile phone, but the officer physically prevented him from doing so, took the phone away, erased the recording and smashed the phone itself.  full story

Czech Police say attack on disabled man was not committed by a Romani person

Česká Lípa, 4.8.2014 2:25, (ROMEA) "A Rom attacks and robs a wheelchair user near the Andy department store in Česká Lípa..." - this was the title accompanying a video recording posted to YouTube last Thursday from the mobile telephone of Radek Bachtík, who according to the tabloid news server is a 20-year-old high school student. Slovakia: Police arrest neo-Nazis in Nitra, investigative delays to be reviewed

Nitra, Slovakia, 29.1.2014 17:52, (ROMEA) News server reports that yesterday evening, police in Nitra finally arrested five neo-Nazis whose brutal assault on the defenseless customers of the Mariatchi student bar was captured by municipal police cameras last year. Podgorica, 25.7.2013 17:32, (ROMEA) On Wednesday, 24 July, in the very conservative country of Montenegro, right-wing extremists shouting "Kill the gays!" assaulted activists from the gay community who were meeting up for the country's first-ever Gay Pride Parade in the seaside resort of Budva. Wire services report the attackers threw bottles, rocks, smoke bombs and other objects, including café tables, at several dozen participants in the march and their supporters before clashing with riot police protecting the event.  full story
