News server Romea.cz has reported that an apparently banal incident among some children playing at the children's pool there first sparked an argument and then a brawl between a Romani woman and a "white" woman.  full story

Belgium: Roma Travellers to be evicted in EU capital, fire reported at their halting site

26.6.2018 13:47 The European Roma Grassroots Organizations network reports that Roma Travellers living in the Anderlecht neighborhood of Brussels, Belgium are scheduled to be evicted on 28 June and that part of their camp has been set on fire. All are reportedly Belgian Roma whose ancestors have lived in the country for centuries.  full story

British and Czech Police cooperate to arrest suspected human traffickers

Germany: Crime rates lowest for 25 years, apocalyptic visions of immigrant crime seem to have been exaggerated

29.4.2018 15:27 German newspaper Die Welt reports that recently published statistics for 2017 show that crime overall in Germany is at a record low - compared to 2016, the statistics demonstrate an overall decline of almost 10 %, the biggest in 25 years. The pessimistic predictions made by politicians who are opposed to receiving refugees, who have scared their constituents by predicting Germany would be devastated by crimes perpetrated by immigrants during the next few years, have apparently not come to pass.  full story

Czech elections: Vote-buying suspected in poor community, Roma not involved

26.10.2017 6:25 On 19 October the news server HlídacíPes.org ("watchdog.org") reported suspicions that ballots were being manipulated yet again in the North Bohemian town of Krupka ahead of last weekend's elections to the Czech lower house. News server Romea.cz followed up and learned that apparently Romani residents of the community were not involved this time.  full story

Slovakia: Five machine gun bullets fired into home of Romani family, suspects in custody

12.10.2017 8:21 Media in Slovakia reported on 11 October that gunmen fired up to five bullets, probably using a machine gun, into the single-family home of a Romani family with young children in the town of Pohronská Polhora. Police are staying silent for the time being about the shocking case.

Czech company that owns pig farm on Roma genocide site will appeal order to return subsidy due to EU anti-fraud investigation

11.10.2017 16:21 Czech Radio reported on 5 October that the AGPI firm must return a subsidy of EUR 375 000 in Czech and EU funds which it applied for in order to reconstruct an egg factory in Vrcovice u Písku. The firm is primarily known to the general public as the operator of the pig farm standing on a site in Lety u Písku where Romani people fell victim to the Holocaust.  full story
