Czech Govt Agency for Social Inclusion: 80 % of families who left residential hotels for standard rentals still renting one year later

More than four-fifths of households living in residential hotels who were able to apply for extraordinary benefits to cover the costs of deposits and equipment when moving into standard rental apartment units are still in that housing in good standing one year later. Almost one-fifth of such households, moreover, made the move without requesting housing benefits from the state at all.

Portugal: Christian radio station awarded prize for working to reduce inter-ethnic tension in Slovakia

Agenzia Fides reports that on 10 October the European Conference of Christian Radio (ECCR) held its 25th meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. This year, for the very first time, an award was given there for the best initiative contributing to improving the situation in the country where the radio is broadcasting.

Slovakia: Two-day meeting of V4 presidents was to cover Romani community issues, among other matters

On 11 October a two-day meeting began in the High Tatras of Slovakia between the presidents of four Central European countries comprising the so-called Visegrád Four (V4). The traditional summit between the presidents of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia was hosted by Slovak President Andrej Kiska, whose country is now presiding over the V4.

Czech police officer claims to have filmed journalists "staging" migrants drowning, his superiors see nothing wrong with that

Czech Police officer Marek Chrastina of Šumperk, Czech Republic, went to Crete on vacation in July and filmed a video on the beach there which he shared through online social networks. The footage went viral mainly by being reposted through Czech-language anti-immigrant, disinformation websites.

Czech ultra-nationalist party joins local assembly in the country's second-largest city

The local assembly of the City of Brno will be joined for the first time ever by the populist, xenophobic "Freedom and Direct Democracy Movement of Tomio Okamura" (SPD), which won four of the 55 seats there in the recent elections. The lead candidate on that ticket, college instructor Ivan Fencl, told the Czech News Agency he wants to audit the city's financial management and strategic projects as part of the opposition.

Czech Police receive complaints about elections, not yet clear whether vote-buying happened

Daniel Vítek, a Czech Police spokesperson, told the Czech News Agency on 6 October that police in the Ústecký Region have received several reports of suspected attempts to influence last weekend's elections and are investigating them all. He would not specify what detectives were going to do further.
