Slovakia: Two Romani children shot in Poprad, perpetrator not yet identified

Slovak news server TVnoviny.sk reports that two children have ended up in hospital in Poprad, Slovakia after being shot last weekend. Police say a still-unidentified perpetrator fired an air pistol at them on the street in the Matejovec quarter of Poprad.

Canada grants asylum to former MEP who faced death threats in Hungary due to her Romani origin

Viktória Mohácsi, a Romani activist and former MEP from Hungary, has finally been awarded political asylum in Canada. She requested asylum in 2012 after seeking police protection over death threats she received upon returning to Hungary when her EP mandate was over.

Slovakia's national minority commissions to approve funding apparently rife with conflicts of interest

News server Aktuality.sk reports that last year, when the Slovak Parliament approved the National Minorities Culture Fund, it was said that to be the first step towards justice for minorities in Slovakia. National minorities were empowered to determine independently where they most need to invest public money for support of their culture. In response to this news, Slovak MPs allocated a budget of eight million euros.

British and Czech Police cooperate to arrest suspected human traffickers

Czech Police have arrested and charged three citizens of the Czech Republic with human trafficking in Great Britain and with other felonies. The two men and one woman allegedly exploited socially vulnerable persons from the Most area.
