Czech Internet spreads lies and xenophobia after brawl in Brno, Interior Ministry responds

28.12.2017 8:39 Detectives in Brno, Czech Republic have charged three foreign nationals on suspicion of assaulting two men, one from Armenia and one from the Czech Republic, in the early morning hours of Saturday on Běhounská Street. The alleged main instigator of the incident has also been charged with felony battery, making dangerous threats and rioting, for which he could be imprisoned for up to 10 years if convicted, while the others were charged with rioting, which carries a maximum sentence of two years, according to a press release issued by the spokesperson for the South Moravian Regional Police, Andrea Cejnková.

Czech Interior Ministry monitoring up to 40 disinformation servers

28.6.2017 11:24 The Czech Interior Ministry is monitoring as many as 40 online servers which they believe are harming the interests of the Czech state, according to news server Aktuálně.cz, which has managed to acquire internal materials from the ministry and statements from some highly-positioned officials there. The servers being monitored include websites that purely serve disinformation purposes, as well as websites that are manipulative or propagandistic.  full story

Czech Interior Minister and President disagree about disinformation unit

16.1.2017 6:43 Czech President Miloš Zeman and Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (Czech Social Democratic Party - ČSSD) met last week but were unable to find a common position on the new unit that has been focused on fighting disinformation since the beginning of the year. Czech bank pulls advertising from disinformation websites, costing them revenue

18.12.2016 21:00 The Česká spořitelna bank has pulled its advertising from the disinformation websites that have been regularly leading their readers astray or very frequently distorting the information they report. Those news servers have now lost that advertising revenue.  full story
