Italian Interior Minister plans to deport Romani people, opposition calls the plan repugnant

Czech vigilantes file their own crime report about play in Brno

31.5.2018 13:44 The self-described "Decent People" movement filed a crime report on Monday in connection with Saturday's performance of the play "Our Violence and Your Violence", in which an actor embodying the character of Jesus Christ enacts the rape of a Muslim woman and another actress enacts pulling a Czech flag from her vagina. The report is against the director of the National Theater venue in Brno, Martin Glaser, against the Croatian director of the play, Oliver Frljič, and against the actors' ensemble.  full story

Slovakia: Debacle in elections for the neofascists, Kotleba out as Regional Governor

7.11.2017 17:32 Slovakia has directly elected Regional Governors and Regional Assembly members in the country's eight self-administering regions. Marian Kotleba of the "People's Party Our Slovakia" (LSNS), a neofascist, suffered a big defeat, losing to Jan Lunter by more than 20 percentage points and leaving his post as Banská Bystrica's Governor.  full story

Slovak President Kiska calls on voters to remove Fascists from office

5.9.2017 11:08 Slovak President Andrej Kiska gave a speech in Banská Bystrica last week to celebrate the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising in which he sharply objected to the ultra-right party "Ľudová strana Naše Slovensko Mariana Kotleby" (Marian Kotleba's People's Party Our Slovakia - LSNS), which holds seats in the national legislature and the governorship of the Banská Bystrica Region. "I believe it is our duty to do more than just commemorate the bravery of our forebears one day a year and lay flowers at the memorials to the fallen. At a time when Nazi and Fascist ideologies are growing unscrupulously in our country, it is not enough recall the past and to make speeches," he said.  full story

Slovak President Kiska: Let's stop speaking of the "Romani problem" and use Romani potential

18.6.2017 13:02 According to video footage released by his office, Slovak President Andrej Kiska presented his "Report on the State of the Republic" to the National Assembly on 14 June, assessing the state of the Slovak economy as positive and saying there is potential for Slovakia to further develop even as he criticized the state's inability to resolve its most burning issues, which causes growing mistrust among the citizenry in state institutions and representatives. Czech Olympic athlete: Neo-Nazi opinions are being made dangerously palatable today

24.4.2017 8:00 According to the Czech sprint canoeist Filip Dvořák, extremist opinions are being given to the public today in a much more palatable way than ever before and people are more receptive to them for various reasons. The athlete, who has won the Czech Republic's championship in the sport more than once and is also a successful Olympic competitor, made his remarks in an interview for news server isport.cz, where he expressed his own position on racism and xenophobia, which he believes has no business being part of contemporary society.  full story

Romani celebrity addresses Czech Senate on International Day of Holocaust Remembrance

29.1.2017 9:32 On Friday 27 January 2017 the Czech Senate held its traditional commemorative gathering to mark the International Day of Holocaust Remembrance and Prevention of Crimes against Humanity. Slovak web portals change their background color to light brown to commemorate Holocaust victims

12.9.2016 20:05 On 9 September, news server Pravda.sk and three other Slovak web portals changed the background color of their web pages to light brown. The gesture was meant to remind their readers of the Memorial Day to the Victims of the Holocaust and Racial Violence, as well as to draw attention to the radicalization of the Slovak public - and not just in anonymous online debates.  full story

German domestic intelligence service concerned ultra-right groups might form

Slovakia: Fascist politician seeks minute of silence in Parliament for WWII-era leader, doesn't get it

19.4.2016 8:27 Slovak media are reporting that the leader of Slovakia's ultra-right "Kotleba-People's Party Our Slovakia" (K-LSNS), Marián Kotleba, asked the leadership of Parliament on Friday to announce a minute of silence to honor the President of the wartime Slovak State, Jozef Tiso, who was responsible for the deportation of Jewish people from the country. Andrej Danko, the speaker of Parliament who is also the head of the nationalist Slovak National Party (SNS), refused the motion.  full story

Slovakia: Thousands protest Kotleba and clerical fascism in Bratislava

7.3.2016 23:40 Slovak Police say more than 1 000 people assembled today in the center of Bratislava before marching through the streets of the capital to protest the ultra-right party of Marian Kotleba, the People's Party Our Slovakia (LSNS), which scored gains in parliamentary elections this past weekend. The march was gradually joined by others and organizers estimate it reached between 2 000 and 3 000 people by the time it ended.  full story
