Exhibition on postwar migration of Roma to the Czech Republic

Ostrava, 27.9.2014 23:10, (ROMEA) Earlier this month Ostrava's Mírové náměstí saw the installation of a stylized apartment housing the exhibition "Khatar san?" (Where are you from?) mapping the arrival of Romani people from Slovakia into the Ostrava region for work. The audiovisual exhibition presents the memories and stories of 11 men and women who headed for the Czech Republic from Romani settlements in Slovakia after 1945, according to the project's curator Kateřina Sidiropulu Janků.  full story

Hungarian PM says Roma should be employed instead of immigrants in the EU

Budapest, 26.8.2014 13:22, (ROMEA) The Associated Press has reported that yesterday Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán said the EU should train the 10 million mostly-unemployed Romani people throughout Europe so they would be able to hold the jobs requiring little or no qualifications currently being performed by immigrants. Orbán said he believes it is "irresponsible" to employ foreigners in jobs that Romani people could get.  full story

Czech Labor Ministry taking social criteria into account during tenders

Prague, 12.8.2014 17:54, (ROMEA) The Czech Labor and Social Affairs Ministry (MPSV) signed on several months ago to a concept for responsible public procurement that views it as a tool to enhance employment, social cohesion and sustainability. Now maintenance work in the ministry's Prague headquarters is being performed by people from the Sociální podnik Černý most, s. r. o. (Černý most Social Enterprise).  full story

Czech Social Minister corrects Labor Office director's claims about welfare abuse

Prague, 23.7.2014 18:45, (ROMEA) A press release from the Czech Labor and Social Affairs Ministry (MPSV) issued Monday states that according to the information available from the General Directorate of the Labor Office of the Czech Republic, the degree to which welfare is abused - applied for and received by those who do not qualify - ranges from between five to 10 % of the total volume of disbursals. The situation may vary depending on the region, but the vast majority of welfare makes its way to the right people.  full story

Czech town revives housing estate through employment policy
