Czech Museum of Romani Culture still waiting for funds for demolition of pig farm on genocide site

Despite the fact that the last pigs were removed from the industrial farm at Lety u Písku in mid-March, the facility is in the same state as it was when the Museum of Romani Culture first took it over. While the previous owners, the AGPI firm, have already been paid, the Museum is now incurring a deficit through its current administration of the entire facility because the Government has not yet approved the transfer of the promised financing from the budget reserves for the reclamation of the site of the former concentration camp.

Czech NGO teaches Romani people how to start their own businesses

According to experts, support for small entrepreneurial activities is one way to address the problem of Romani people finding their place on the Czech labor market.

Czech Republic: Romani Student Movement says Roma must be involved in addressing affairs that affect them

Earlier this month, Romani college students in Ostrava, Czech Republic officially established their group called the Romani Student Movement. Italy: Court in Rome convicts four perpetrators of 2011 pogrom on Romani camp in Turin

The ANSA wire service reported last week that a court in Rome, Italy found four people guilty of ethnic and racial hatred when they set fire to a Romani camp in the Vallette suburb of Turin in 2011. The appeals court in Turnin had upheld the first-instance conviction but reduced the sentences to between two and four years in prison, according to court sources.

Romani NGOs around Europe ask why the OSCE is researching alleged radicalization of their communities in Serbia

Representatives of Romani organizations from around Europe have contacted the head of the OSCE's mission to Serbia to express their alarm over the 10 July 2018 announcement of a search for a “Researcher on Radicalization among the Roma Community in Serbia”. The Romani representatives say they are deeply concerned about the growing insecurity of Roma in Europe as a result of extremist antigypsyism in a number of OSCE participating States.

Czech Interior Minister says MP is lying about foreign nationals voting

Czech MP Tomio Okamura (SPD), the vice-chair of the lower house and chair of the populist, xenophobic SPD party, announced on his official Facebook profile on Sunday that "Foreigners without Czech citizenship will newly be able to vote in the Czech Republic and run for office!" He also accused the new Czech Interior Minister Jan Hamáček of having instituted the measures immediately upon taking office.
