16.11.2018 12:46 On Monday, 12 November, news server interviewed the chair of the Committee for the Redress of the Roma Holocaust in the Czech Republic (VPORH), Čeněk Růžička, at the site of the archaeological probes into what have been assumed to be mass burial pits for the former prisoners of the WWII-era concentration camp at Lety. An international research team under the direction of Pavel Vařeka from the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň has been performing the very first non-invasive archaeological probe ever near the memorial currently at the site.  full story

Czech Police do not find politicians' remarks about Romani genocide site to have been criminal

16.10.2018 12:24 The remarks made earlier this year by the chair of the "Freedom and Direct Democracy" movement (SPD), Czech MP Tomio Okamura, and by his party colleague Czech MP Miloslav Rozner about the WWII-era concentration camp for Romani people at Lety u Písku have not been found to be criminal. The Czech Police have shelved the case.  full story

Czech Government releases funds to demolish pig farm on Romani genocide site, archaeological survey will happen

5.9.2018 7:28 Yesterday the Czech Government decided to release CZK 111 million [EUR 4,311,600] for an archaeological survey, cleanup and demolition work on the grounds of the
defunct pig farm at the site of the former concentration camp for Romani people at Lety. Czech Culture Minister Antonín Staněk (Czech Social Democratic
Party - ČSSD) informed the Czech News Agency and Czech Radio of the decision after yesterday's cabinet session.  full story

Czech Museum of Romani Culture still waiting for funds for demolition of pig farm on genocide site

20.7.2018 17:13 Despite the fact that the last pigs were removed from the industrial farm at Lety u Písku in mid-March, the facility is in the same state as it was when the Museum of Romani Culture first took it over. While the previous owners, the AGPI firm, have already been paid, the Museum is now incurring a deficit through its current administration of the entire facility because the Government has not yet approved the transfer of the promised financing from the budget reserves for the reclamation of the site of the former concentration camp.  full story

Czech institutions designing memorial about the genocide of the Roma are inspired by Norwegian remembrance sites

25.6.2018 12:58 Representatives of institutions contributing to designing the building of a new memorial to the genocide of the Roma at Lety u Písku in the Czech Republic made a trip at the beginning of June to locations that commemorate various historical events in Norway. The 10-member group visited leading Norwegian institutions working with awareness about the events of the Second World War as well as more recent history.  full story

Nationalists desecrate Czech memorial to genocide of the Roma

8.6.2018 8:26 The memorial to the genocide of the Roma at Lety u Písku has been desecrated with insulting anti-Roma messages on several signs posted there by the nationalist group "Us Against All" (My proti všem). According to the police who have begun to investigate the incident it could be one of felony disorderly conduct.  full story
